CCS Presented Resume Tips for High School Students

Mollie Watkins, founder of Comprehensive Consulting Solutions for Small Businesses, visited Springdale High School to talk to a group of students about different tips for what goes in a resume, scams and threats, and ways to make their resume stand out to recruiters.

Mollie’s Background

Mollie has extensive experience in the professional world and in leading. This experience comes from her time leading a 50+ million dollar market, opening her own small business, and helping other small businesses with various aspects, including the recruiting process. Running a consulting business also means she understands AI, bots, and the algorithms used in the professional world for recruiting. 

Important Aspects of a Resume

The first step to understanding a resume is knowing what goes in it, which was a central part of Mollie’s presentation. She explained to the students that a resume has different sections, including contact information, skills, education, experience, and references (upon request). These and other sections mentioned in the presentation are all ways applicants can showcase what makes them the best choice for the position they’re applying for. She also showed them an example of a resume to give them an idea of what they are aiming for.

Another topic she covered was the use of technology in the recruiting process and how the students can make their resumes stand out and pass through AI (artificial intelligence) and algorithms using keywords that recruiters use to filter candidates.

Dangers to Look Out For

During the presentation, Mollie took the time to warn the students about the different dangers they should look out for while searching for jobs, including scams directed specifically at them and general job scams that are common. As technology becomes more prevalent, the risks increase as well. She gave them tips and tricks to stay safe and secure when searching for a job to protect themselves and their personal information.
